New Year, Same You!

This may end up being one of my more unpopular opinions, but here it goes…. This whole “New Year, New You” or “New Year, New Me” movement has got to go! Yes, I hate New Years resolutions too, and have not participated in that fiasco since I was a young child. Before you throw in the towel and give up reading, let me explain what I mean.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the person you are. New Year’s, for some reason, seems to put some weird pressure on people to lose weight, make major life changes, or become some hyper-exhaustive version of themselves that is impossible to maintain long term.

There is no difference between the drop of the ball on New Year’s than the stroke of midnight on August 23rd! You get a new chance to become a “new version” of yourself every single day you wake up. When you want to change who you are, or your habits, why wait or put it off until a certain day? Be it New Year’s, Monday, or the 1st of the month. Whatever you are starting… Make it now! Today!

None of these things are dependent on the tripping of a new number on the end of the year. If you were satisfied with the person you were a week ago, why would the change of the year create a need to change that? How many resolutions have you made over the years? How many have successfully made it through to June? Or even January for that matter?

This is not to say that I am against changing and growing as human beings. Quite the opposite. I love watching the journeys of others, and myself, unfold. However, I feel that those journeys are dependent upon our willingness to embrace them in the present rather than force ourselves into lofty idealistic unattainable goals.

Lastly, I do feel that the New Year is a great time to look back over the past 365 days and reflect on our lives. Where could you use more kindness? How could you be of service more? Would things have been easier if you added a meditation practice? Be conscious of your past decisions and try to improve your choices this coming year. Create your best life through mindfulness. This is not something that needs to be done on the changing of a calendar though. You can do this at any point in the year! I enjoy doing this on my birthday. If you think about it, the day of your birth…that is your new year.

I realize this blog post is a little ranty, I would apologize, but I feel as though I am not the only person who feels like this. Also, I kind of blame the pregnancy hormones.

Just a quick recap/update:

We have moved into our third trimester and are dealing with a whole new surge of fun things related to third trimester pregnancy. On top of the coming baby and the  holidays, my family also moved into a new home, had more than one family medical emergency, and  I’m dealing with the hardest time of the year for my disabled uncle. Needless to say, things have been a bit hectic and crazy around here.

As for Lunar Rising, we are planning on increasing our online inventory for our shop. The Gratitude Workshop we were hoping to launch this month had to be delayed just a bit. We are hoping to launch that in the coming months. Finally, we are looking into starting a podcast, and eventually, a YouTube channel to bring you even more Lunar Rising goodness. We look forward to growing with you and having you with us on our journey!
